This morning

Somebody came up to me on the street t'other day and started asking me questions on a mike for some recorded programme about gay people in relationships, and what I thought of the whole issue.

I replied thus:-

"It seems to me that people in a relationship, whether they be gay, straight, lesbian, bi, poly, transgendered, any kind of relationship, they all need more or less the same thing."

"You mean love."

"I mean trust, respect, support, affection, the ability to laugh at one another, make each other laugh. Mostly trust. But in all those relationships, you know the one thing they have never, ever needed, in the slightest amount?"

"What?"

"My permission. Or yours."

End of.

Friend

On Wednesday, a friend in urgent need called me a couple of times. Over the phone, I reassured this friend that I would meet him today, Friday 2 July, at 13:30 in the Wrexham Library Cafe. There, we could eat a hearty meal and talk about this friend's problems.

Today, I was there at 13:25. The place was virtually deserted. I sat and enjoyed a nice cup of Oxo soup - from the only eating establishment I have ever visited which actually sells cups of Oxo soup (only £1.25, comparable o a cup of tea) - and worked on some basic Trachtenberg Method maths problems, practicing basic two-finger technique multiplications on multiplicands of arbitrary length and single digit multipliers (the basic starter level approach).

By the time I'd finished, that friend in need - his need - was nowhere to be seen. I think he'd forgotten our meeting, which is fair enough.

Anyway, I'm back home, prepping for another visit into town - this time to attend the private preview of "Visualising the Invisible: Artists Working in Mental Health" in the Durber Gallery, Regent Street, from 18:00 tonight.

But I had to show my face today. I had given my word.

As a side note, I chose today because it meant that I could meet up with Yuki, the Japanese girl who is visiting our shores to study English. I spotted her once or twice. The last time was with this young male cock blocking her in the corner, talking the usual shit, chatting her up. As you'd expect.

Anyways, I came to the counter having finished off my lovely Oxo soup and enjoyed Trachtenberg practice, caught Yuki's eye. Yuki pushes past the man, comes forward and looks at me.

"Yuki-san, gochiso-sama deshita," I told her. Again, surprise and delight.

"Domo arigato gozaimashita," she says back to me.

We parted with "Sayonara" and "See you!" from her. And as I went out, I caught the look on Ball Boy's face.

Young Padawan has so much more to learn about life. So much more.
