I'm glad your folks are both doing well. Your dad may be a stubborn old fart, and while his not wanting to talk to your mom upset her, I'm not surprised. If it's indeed been that long since they were apart and esp with a hospital stay, he probably felt he was sheltering her from his pain and suffering from the stone. He probably didn't want her to worry over him and thus stress herself out...instead waiting to talk to her when he was feeling better and her worry wouldn't be there.
