Re: Did you get...

I really felt for Zoe, especially towards the end when she was saying "She's tore up plenty, but she'll fly true." You know damn well it's herself she's talking about, as much as the old boat.

That is true. That is true. Of course, there are rumors. Rumors to the fact that Zoe may be pregnant. And Jeff brought up a good point the other night when we watched it. Wash died...yet, Wash is now a permanent part of Serenity. He will be the guiding force, even for River who might be a good pilot. She'll need his spirit to guide her. And she'll be the one to recognize him when he's there. Of course, given the way movies and storylines go, Zoe won't stay alone for long. Even Wash wouldn't have wanted her to be that stoic. Eventually she'll wind up with someone in her bed...and one current thought is Jayne. Though there is a current idea that Jayne will find himself with "Little Sister" at some point. LOL

I thought David Krumholtz (whom I know as maths genius "Charlie Epps" in the TV series Numb3rs) was brilliant as Mr Universe, except when he turned them all in and then got stabbed. Idiot.

No, not an idiot. Didn't think he had a choice. Probably knew that Mal would win no matter what and Mr. Universe almost assuredly knew he'd die. He was a media man...he knew what the Alliance was capable of.

Did you notice, though, that there was an underlying theme to the story, namely that of what love is capable of?

Down to Joss making the movie out of love for his universe, out of love for his fans and out of the love he knew his fans had for him and his universe. Love made it all possible.

Though I don't think that Mal specifically went to Inara's aid out of too deep a love. Yes, he probably loves her a great deal and vice versa. But she was for the better part of a year a part of his crew in many ways. And he'd do anything for members of his crew. He did the same for Book and told the Shepherd as much. "You're a part of my crew." Mal is a true alpha. He cares for his pack with a loyalty that is amazing.

Honestly? I don't know if I care whether Mal and Inara get together or not. With her being a companion? They really can't ever be together. It wouldn't work. Mal could be with Nandi because they found momentary comfort in each other. But as a long term thing? Wouldn't have worked between them either. Actually...as a long term, we see you when we see you and pick up where we left off kind of thing with Nandi? Yeah, that would have worked. There would have been no expectations. No jealousies. But with Inara? Inara is clearly jealous of anyone who'd get Mal's attention in that fashion, but if she's not willing to give up her companioning ("Can I use companion as a verb?" --Wash), then she can't go around expecting Mal to be faithful to her.
