Giveaways

First things first. This morning, a copy of Lords of Summer for Changeling: the Lost arrived on my doorstep. Which was brilliant.

Then, as I was settling down to read it, I got a text from Rodders, one of my old friends - an alumnus of a defunct and much-missed Trek group called The Federation. Anyhow, he informed me that he was in town, and he had a bunch of Iain Banks books which he was, get this, giving away.

I got into town in fifteen minutes. The usual travel time is twenty five. Five minutes of this travel time was spent being distracted in W H Smith, so the actual time is ... *count fingers, types with toes* ten minutes into actual town from the flat.

Walking.

The soles of my shoes are still smouldering. But I got the books. And I am well chuffed.

Anyways, I then went to the library to look up Italian lessons. The very good news is ... they have them. The very bad news is ... it's in an out of town college, and the local bus services utterly, utterly suck.

I have the rest of this week and all of next week to see what I can do about that. I'm not giving up yet. In the meantime, there are creative writing courses that are a lot closer to home.

Remember; the objective is to expand my circle of friends with some new offline ones. Preferably, ones who will be interested in after-college activities together. I'll see what I can do about all of this too.

Lastly, and just before coming on here, I watched this BBC4 show about the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, and all the scientists' hopes and fears about what they hope to find ... and what they fear they might not.

So. Since I am still going through Star Maker by Olaf Stapledon, I'm a way off getting to read the Banks books - but I'm getting there. And I am officially on my last chapter of Book One of The Fourth Rewrite before writing the Epilogue to this book (and before embarking upon the next Book of the story).

A productive day, then, for me. What's it been like for all of you?
