Spanish town votes in Elvis flares and nude pool

Council meetings in Reus could take a turn for the bizarre after the northern Spanish town voted in a councillor who promised to turn up dressed as Elvis Presley and wants to turn the square into a nudist pool.

Ariel Santamaria, a former postman, stood for a small independent party dressed in full Elvis regalia complete with sideburns and won enough votes last weekend to take a council seat.

It remains to be seen how other parties will take his proposals for Reus, a town of 100,000 people near Barcelona.

His platform included plans to paint the town hall pink, plant marijuana in the parks and give the town police global positioning systems to find people who might need a light while rolling a joint.

Personal Update

Still not feeling too energetic, despite a full night's sleep. I went to bed at a decent hour, got up at my regular hour, and now I'm in town.

I'll go and get something to eat in a minute, and take my usual regimen of supplements. I'll stay awake now, until 22:00, and hopefully you won't hear from me until at least 06:00 tomorrow at that point.

On the writing front, I changed the names of two characters this week, to make them sound more euphonious. So that's lots of pages of hardcopy I've had to swap out, and a lot of paper reprinted. I'm glad I've got everything on file, backed up at home and on my flash drives: I'd have never been able to do this without a computer to help me.
