No, not fucking arson. Trying a feature on Facebook. The above is a link to the photo album in my Facebook account.

The photos I've linked to show a fire which was burning down the old Hippodrome Cinema complex in downtown Wrexham: a historical building, sadly now scheduled for demolition very, very soon.

I'm amazed at how darned many of these old buildings here in town go up in flames around the time the condemnation orders are submitted. To show you how commonplace this sort of thing is, look at the people in the photos. See how blase they are, treating a downtown fire as something you see every day.

On this day, twelve years ago, a massive car bomb went off in Manchester, destroying much of the city centre and severely damaging an ancient building called The Corn Exchange.

I only recently discovered that the old Corn Exchange building had been built by Dr John Dee, the famous English occultist, during his stay in Manchester.

June 16th might be a day I gloss over in my LJ posts once in a while. But I never, ever forget.
