If I had the chance to start my life all over again, I'd stay away from schools altogether, given the chance.

I always loathed going to school. I was one of the few kids who actually went there to try to learn something, rather than to establish my place in the social order as everyone else seemed hell bent on doing.

This day and age, the social stratification of schools has reached levels of obscenity undreamed of by anyone of my generation could possibly imagine, to the point where I honestly believe that members of each stratum seem to be living in different worlds: they only seem to coexist in the same place and time by accident.

Methane On Mars - Possible Sign of Life?

Just in case you're wondering, methane is a gas that is either produced by geological activity ... or by life. And its short lifespan in an atmosphere indicates that the process generating it must be a current one.

Now the scientists at NASA are pretty sure that Mars is geologically dead: the kind of geological activity that they know of, of the sort that produces methane on Earth, is not likely to be happening on Mars.

So, assuming that the methane's not being produced by geological processes, what else could be generating it ... that we know of?

It's a big if. But it's got a lot of people excited.

And you know, I could say something here at this point, but I couldn't possibly comment ...
