Bloody Inconvenient
Jan. 7th, 2010 11:14 amSomething's happened to the SSL of my Firefox browser. As a result, I can't sign in to anything.
Here's the error message that crops up in the dialog:-
Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.
And here's what I get when I try to log in to anything:-
An error occurred during a connection to XXXXXXX.XXXXXXXX.XXX.
Can't connect securely because the SSL protocol has been disabled.
(Error code: ssl_error_ssl_disabled)
* The page you are trying to view can not be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
* Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem. Alternatively, use the command found in the help menu to report this broken site.
I'm going to have to use Opera as my main browser, but I'm keeping Firefox on for now.
I have uninstalled Firefox twice, and reinstalled the latest version direct from Mozilla. The corruption of the SSL was unaffected in the new installation.
So I'm stuck until I can get this thing corrected.
Is there any advice you can offer? I'd hate to have to go back to bloody WinIE.
Edit: Thanks to some sound advice from
lemuria, I found what had gone wrong with Firefox: a single tiny little bloody file in my Firefox profile, which I was advised to delete - it would be recreated, clean, with the next reboot.
And since I am writing this out in Firefox, you can take it as read that it worked! :D
