Today, I had my very last cup of coffee in Deli Express.

This tiny little cafe in Wrexham's bus station had been around for about seven years. I have been more than a regular there: I was part of their family.

And today, the cafe closed its doors for the very last time. Deli Express has ceased trading.

Right now, I feel a sense of unbelievable loss. I feel like my home has just been demolished.

To mark the end of this era in town, I composed an email to send to both the Daily Post and the Leader newspapers.

Sir,

I was saddened to learn that Deli Express, the cafe in Wrexham bus station, ceased trading today. As a customer virtually since its opening, its closure fills me with great loss.

This was more than a cafe: it was a second home to many of the regulars, and my favourite haunt in town, where I have shared some fond memories.

I imagine the proprietors, Sian and Adele, must have felt extremely sad when they shut the doors for the last time. My thoughts are with them, as are the thoughts and good wishes of all the customers, regular and casual, who have graced the premises.

In time, perhaps someone will reopen the unit and trade there. If we're lucky, it will be another small independent cafe. But nothing will replace what has just been lost.

Adieu, Deli Express. Thanks for seven good years.

I think that says it all.

Spelt

Spelt

This grain is known by its Linnaean taxonomic nomenclature, Triticum aestivum var. spelta. Originated in Iran, between 8,000 and 9,000 years ago. Used as a feed grain for animals, but it's gained a lot of interest as a human grain food because of its high protein and nutrition content, and its nutty flavour.

I had spelt bread this evening. Mum and Dad, too. It came in this large, round, crusty brown seeded loaf with a soft, light, fluffy interior.

It. Was. Amazing.

Thing is, now we've tried it I can tell the folks that, in all likelihood, we have tasted a foodstuff that nobody else in our entire family, as far back as records begin, has ever eaten.

I do love bringing new experiences into the house for the folks sometimes. :)
