Thursday night was pretty fraught, but nowhere near as fraught as it has been of late. The computer in the shed went down and stayed offline, no apparent reason. It took a phone call pretty late at night to the ISP tech support hotline to figure out what was wrong.
Turns out that a MS patch, automatically downloaded, negatively synergised with the firewall software in the shed, meaning that the firewall software automatically locked out internet access. Internal function was unimpaired: just net access.
Yesterday (Friday) morning, I figured out how to sort this out. I logged onto the system with the firewall disabled, and headed straight to the firewall manufacturer's page for an update patch, just as the ISP tech support helpline suggested.
One quick reboot later, and everything was fine and dandy again. We now have net access back at the shed.
Anyway, after managing to sort out that problem, I decided to come back home to the flat. So I'm typing this here whilst looking out the window. From where I'm sitting, it's pitch black outside. There's just no light out there at all. Can't even see the stars. I have to get up and look out the window to see any kind of light out there at all.
And with that, I think I'll take my leave and get some well earned rest.
