These three months of the year are odd for me, in that there are a rash of little events and anniversaries.

September brings unofficial and semi-official celebrations, such as Breakaway Day (September 13), Eris Day (September 14) and International Talk Like A Pirate Day (September 19). Next, o course, is the Autumnal Equinox (usually September 20).

October is kind of a fallow period, with only Samhain to look forward to; but November comes along with a little flurry of anniversaries, not to mention the month-long challenge of NaNoWriMo. Not all of these anniversaries are nice: the 20th is the Transgender Day of Remembrance and the 11th is of course Remembrance Day. The 20th is also a day that [livejournal.com profile] wolf_heart9 always remembers, for the saddest of reasons.

And then three days follow, one after the other. November 22, which is the anniversary of the death of JFK and which I usually mark as "International Tinfoil Hat Day;" the 23rd, also the anniversary of Doctor Who's first episode; and then the 24th, my parents' wedding anniversary. Incidentally, it's also the anniversary of the death of Freddie Mercury - he died 1991 11 24.

This year's anniversary on the 24th was particularly interesting. My folks celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on this day. As a matter of curiosity, by coincidence the anniversary fell on the exact day of the week - Saturday - as the wedding.

Oh, and cast your minds ahead to next year: it will be the 50th anniversaries of JFK and Doctor Who and, if you think about it, those anniversaries will fall on the exact same days of the week as the original events (and as a matter of fact, every single day from March 1 2012 all the way through to February 28 2014 falls on the exact same days of the week as March 1 1962 through to February 28 1964. Every single day in 2012 falls on the exact same days of the week as they fell in 1963).

December 1 will be another remembrance - it being World AIDS Day, time for the red ribbon and to remember those whom that vile disease has taken away. It will also be the start of Caganerwatch 2012, of course. Can't have Christmas without caganers and Christmas fails, can we?

So it's an odd little social calendar that I keep for these three months from September through to the end of November. Not the sanest of festivals, anniversaries or celebrations, but they keep me stable enough to look forward to marking them in some way, whether by watching an episode of Space: 1999 for Breakaway Day, or reading the Principia Discordia for Eris Day. And that regularity makes them worth marking.
