The Week That Was
May. 29th, 2005 05:41 pmThis last week contained a number of highlights, great and not so great.
Firstly, I bought some simple chairs to go into the flat. Didn't cost me a great bunch. Very nice chairs. Next, hopefully, a table.
Anyway, I looked at my bank account - I should save more.
However, before I start saving, I decided to splash out on something. I've asked a place called The Libra Centre in Penmaenmawr, N Wales, to construct for me a wand.
Not just any wand. This beauty has been in my dreams since, well, forever. One end's a moonstone; the other, an obsidian. The wand itself is made of rowan.
I've also asked the Libra Centre to construct it with a very specific structure, never tried before by anyone there. Double cored, one core being of iron, the other of copper. The schematic's going to be uploaded into the Photos section of my Yahoo Group, Adeptus.
The whole thing's essentially designed to feel like the wand equivalent of Darth Maul's double light saber, and if these guys can get it built, it'll be so kewl to own, let alone to use.
Anyways, Thursday ... not so good. I got one of those assessments to determine my fitness to work. In spite of my best efforts, I've still got issues limiting the choice of work I can go to.
But that's all right, because I'm looking into my own options anyway.
Friday, just as Big Brother 6 began on Channel Four, Big Ben in London slowed to a crawl and then stopped for an hour and a half. No explanation given, but I suspect the Government were merely signalling to SPECTRE that they were willing to pay the ransom, so pretty please can Blofeld return those two nukes, preferably without arming them first?
And finally on Saturday, we saw the concluding part of the two-part Doctor Who story, "The Empty Child." This story was "The Doctor Dances."
This series cannot be recommended enough. Christopher Ecclestone's performance as The Doctor knocks the socks off all his predecessors combined. Billie Piper's role as Rose Tyler just gets better and better as the actress develops the character in new ways each week.
Together, they are like magic. I wonder if David Tennant's Doctor will be as good with Billie, now Ms Piper's promised to stay with the series next season.
Right then. That's it for the week so far. Next week, I have to await a verdict on my benefits status - it might be this week, it might be next or even the week after. I have no idea. I've also got to enquire further on the status of another project I've been looking into, and there are some phone numbers I really must ring this week, just to get the damned ball rolling on them.
You know? Just on the spur of the moment, the thought occurred to me today. I really would like to find out if any part time courses are available to teach people how to cook. Wonder if I'd be any good at it?
Righty-ho. I'm off. Peace.
