Credit Where Credit's Due
Jul. 21st, 2006 04:07 pmI just finished my Creative Writing course for this year. Today was the last, the very last, lesson.
Martin Williams, the tutor, is quitting the post. It was a voluntary job anyway, and it was getting so that the course was costing him far too much to run it.
So this post is really about Martin Williams, not about me.
The man is an inspiration. His course reminded me of my writing skill, the ability to craft words into something resembling entertainment. I also learned many things from him; not only concerning my writing style and the basics of grammar and syntax, but also about the different kinds of writing project, such as radio and TV and film and stage scripts, monologues, formal and informal poetry, short stories, novels and even non-fictional articles.
His classes were havens for us; two hour windows where we could come in on a Friday afternoon, and indulge in our creativity. We could open up to our fellow students, share our knowledge, our feelings with each other, and write about the things we had found over the weeks. They were an inspirational to us all.
So, Martin Williams, may you find your life as inspired and uplifting as you have made me feel, these past few months. Good luck to you, wherever Fate takes you.
Peace.
