I just read the following new article on The Dead People Server:
John M. Ford (writer) -- Dead. Died September 24, 2006. Born circa 1957. How Much for Just the Planet?, witty addition to conferences and the Web.
I just read the following news article here.
Oh damn. :((
The first time the name "John M Ford" caught my attention was some articles he'd written in the 80s for Steve Jackson Games; along with the late, lamented Nigel D Findley, he helped to shape gaming for a lot of us veterans.
The next time he caught my eye was The Final Reflection, the book that helped propel Klingons into Trekker fandom like never before; and the aforementioned How Much for Just the Planet?, one of the funniest books I ever read, and the funniest Star Trek novel.
Apparently, he died under unexplained circumstances two days ago, on the 24th September.
He was one of the guys I very much hoped I'd like to meet some day.
And now I never will. :'(
