First, Sebastian seems to be working okay so far, touch wood. Took a few good, candid photos of my sister and my niece, along with Mum. They downloaded okay into my computer, and thence onto my pendrive.
Now, the pendrives. Here's where the fun begins.
There was an advert in WHSmith for a 1Gb pendrive, worth £8.74 (RRP through the roof, way too expensive, but they're for sale at 75% off, and about bloody time too).
So I bought one, and nice it looks too.
But when I asked the sales girl to put the points on my card, I was told that Smith's are closing down the Clubcard scheme once and for all. My card will no longer get new points put onto it.
The girl asked me if I had any valid points on my card. She checked. She nearly passed out.
Over the last ten years, I have spent money in Smith's, had points put away on the card, thought nothing about it. She discovered that I have managed to accrue 2806 points on my card, from ten years of buying pencils and 2000ADs and Judge Dredd Megazines and art boxes and Gods know what all else.
I have £28.06 I can spend on bloody anything.
Including more pen drives.
I can get another 2Gb and a 1Gb out of this, and only have to fork out a few pence to cover the difference. I am so getting those pen drives tomorrow.
And some day, I will get a 4Gb one from Wrexham Cameras as well. These ones I'm getting now, they're just spares I'm buying just because they're there, and I might as well use those points now.
So, back home with my brand new 1Gb pen drive, I finally got to retire the first pen drives I ever bought, sporty little 512Mb jobs with black neoprene surfaces. One of these will be completely retired and taken out of play: I've got some spare stuff on it like fonts and non-essential zip files I don't need unless I'm setting up stuff on a new computer.
The snazzy new red 1Gb drive is now my mainstay drive, labelled Library 00. All the documents from the old 512Mb drive, including ongoing works in progress and projects, are now housed in Library 00; the other 2Gb drives are Gallery 00 (all the photos I've taken) and Gallery 01 (everything else).
As for the other black neoprene 512Mb retired pen drive ... that, I'm using as a portfolio. When I need to take something to be printed out at Wrexham Cameras, it goes into that drive. Hand it in, leave a text file to explain what I need, come back in 24 hours. Delete contents when done.
My life is seriously science fiction these days. :)
