Tony Hart, RIP
Jan. 18th, 2009 04:41 pmI learned this sad news much earlier today.
Tony Hart, an artist and BBC TV presenter who got an entire generation turned on to art, has died. He was 83.
He'd been ill for some time, and I think that the news that killed him was a short time ago, when he revealed that his arthritis had effectively denied him forever the use of his hands, meaning that he could no longer pursue his beloved art.
It's sad indeed, when you consider that Mark Speight, a fellow TV presenter and lover of art, preceded Tony so many months ago and so tragically. Undoubtedly Mark had been inspired by Tony's example in his own short life.
It is sad when such creative people leave us. When a gentle person, who only wants to capture nature on canvas, dies and leaves the world full of warmongers whose only ambition seems to be to want to paint the earth red with the blood of his fellow humans, the world is greatly diminished.
I'll bet they're mourning Tony's passing down at Aardman Studios, too. Tony gave them Morph, and made their name long before Wallace & Gromit ever did.
