Sad but true *cough*paris hilton*cough*. It's much easier to become rich by starting out rich. In fact, it's kinda looking like it's the only way to become rich these days.
An Example:
Let's say you're a brilliant scientist who discovers some absolutely incredible, useful, cheap application of technology (I like to use the flying car as an example, YMMV). So he's got this great idea and because he's employed by a "good", "progressive" company, they give him a few thousand extra bucks once they take the idea, implement it and make billions. Because he used corporate e-mail (or private e-mail while on company time) to make notes about it.
