The Fugitive actor Morse mourned
British actor Barry Morse, best known for playing the detective in pursuit of Dr Richard Kimble in 1960s TV series The Fugitive, has died aged 89.
Morse, who played Lt Philip Gerard in the cult drama, died on Saturday at University College Hospital, London, after a brief illness, his son said.
In his early career, the actor made a name for himself in London's West End.
Morse, who also played Professor Victor Bergman in 1970s sci-fi series Space 1999, emigrated to Canada in 1951.
Morse began playing Lt Philip Gerard in 1963, with his character's pursuit of Kimble teasing audiences for four series.
His son Hayward Morse said: "He thought it was a good show - well filmed, well directed and well acted.
"He had nothing disparaging to say about The Fugitive."
Other 1960s TV parts included appearing with James Bond actor Roger Moore in The Saint.
According to Barry Morse's website, he played "more than 3,000 roles on radio, television, stage and in film".
He won a number of awards in Canada for his TV acting.
Hayward Morse said his father's proudest achievement was reviving the George Bernard Shaw theatre festival in Ontario.
He became Shaw Festival's artistic director in 1966.
