In the US Election thingy ... has John McCain just up and quit? It looks like he's just handed over the reins to Barack Obama uncontested.

I am genuinely confused, and not in a Discordian way either - although if this is some sort of trick, to try and snatch the election from Obama at the last minute, erm, he may still have gone and sacrificed his own queen (no, not that Palin monster!) prematurely.

I don't get it. I'm still waiting for McCain to pull the rabbit out of the hat and say "Ha! Fooled you! Now we can step over the bloody corpse of the opposition's campaign and go on to win!" Because, for now, for right now, it looks exactly as it seems - he's effectively handed the keys to the Oval Office to Obama.

Please, Dem supporters. Press on. Go and vote for Obama on Election Day. Don't be like the hare, thinking it'll be okay to take a nap and let this Republican tortoise trundle to the finish line.

Run for the finish line now. Keep pressing on. Not until the McCain campaign really has cashed in its chips, just before the polls open.

Don't assume you've won a damned thing till that last polling booth closes and the last votes are tallied. Keep On Pressing Relentlessly For Obama.

Edited: *grins* I've just realised. Mercury went retrograde yesterday (24th September).

What McCain has attempted to do is push back the date of the first presidential debate to what is currently scheduled to be the date of the first vice-presidential debate. Because his vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, is not ready to be president of the local PTA, much less POTUS. If they can just keep delaying the time when everyone and their dog realizes that, it will go better for them.

No, all that's just a fancy way of saying, "This economy thing is a mess. Since we're both senators, we probably ought to put off campaigning for a little bit and head back to Congress so we can vote on the bailout proposal."

Why nobody in politics can just say what they mean without using stupid metaphors...it's starting to get really embarrassing.
