Happy Halloween!

Ah, well, Samhain has finally arrived.
Today began, sadly enough, with a funeral: the late Mrs Hurd. Across the road, the usual activities started up - lots of black suits, white shirts, black ties, all the women dressed in black etc. Wreaths, cars parked outside, the usual.
And then ... they brought in Mrs Hurd in her box. So she could say goodbye to her house, one last time.
Then it was off to town, me and the folks. I could only spare a moment of my time this afternoon, sadly, and there was no way I was able to attend the actual service itself - this was going to turn out to be one of the busiest days of the year so far, what with my having to drop by Grosvenor Road, the Library, the bank and at least one store, not to mention having to return to the flat to drop off all my things ... before coming right back into town again.
To say that today was hectic for me is an understatement. However, at least I had it planned. And the day's events went off smoothly.
And now, ritual. For me, Halloween's a bare bones ritual. I light candles for the most recently departed, so they can find their way home on this night of nights. The sad thing is, I never expected to be lighting a candle for poor old Mrs Hurd.
You think they're going to be there for you forever.
Which will lead to my next post, shortly, in which I shall muse on the nature of life and death.
After a few moments offline, to meditate upon the light and the darkness. And the part of the universe where we live, which lies somewhere in between.
