The Andromeda Strain (1969) - the original novel

Binary (1972) - a lunatic tries to assassinate the POTUS with a lethal binary nerve agent.

Sphere (1987) - an alien artifact on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean messes with people's heads.

Jurassic Park (1990) and The Lost World (1995) - introduced Chaos Theory and velociraptors to mainstream consciousness.

Movies:

The Andromeda Strain (1971) - Based on the novel.

Pursuit (1972) - based on Binary.

Westworld (1973) - introduced the concept of the computer virus and malware; "A disease machines can catch."

Looker (1981) - brought the concept of subliminals into mainstream consciousness.

Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World (1997) - based on the books.

The 13th Warrior (1999) - based on Eaters of The Dead (1976), which I haven't read.

Twister (1996) - because they do something impossible at the end: survive an F5 tornado by tying their belts to some pipes. Always good for a laugh, that scene ...

Michael also directed Robin Cook's Coma (1978), based on Cook's seminal story of unscrupulous medical malpractice and organlegging, and one uncredited inspiration (too many) for The Cheiron Group from White Wolf's Hunter: the Vigil Storytelling game.

And finally, lest we forget, Michael also brought about that long-standing medical drama series that launched the career of George Clooney, ER.

Rest in peace, Michael. You'll be missed.
