A while back, I bought a razor from the King of Shaves line, the "Azor."

Just disposed of the shaver head I've been using. I'll start with a new shaver head on my Azor next time.

I managed to get ten good, solid shaves out of that one shaver head. And that was the shaver head that came attached to the Azor straight out of the packet.

I have six more shave heads.

If I had but one shave a week, it'll be more than a year from now before I need to buy more heads.

I could barely get three shaves out of the one Bic disposable before having to chuck it. Bloody. Hell.

There's been a big long discussion (a long while back) about razors and blades and there were a couple of big points made. This was in a friend's LJ who had to buy a new blade for every shave ...

1) There are *loads* of cheap knockoff replacement blades out there, for things like the G3 etc. They come across as being a fair bit cheaper than the supermarkets, but that's because they are fakes and use really poor quality steel that blunts immediately. It's really hard to spot a fake as colour printing is easy to reproduce for the packets, and the plastic and metal look very very similar to the real ones ... almost certainly this applies to disposables as well, so a pack of Bic disposables from "up the market", "the local corner shop" or "cheap on ebay" may be terrible fakes.

2) the beard whisker is *much* stronger when dry. A good quality cream or foam helps wet the whisker and gives the razor a much easier job.

I've been on the "King of Shaves" mailing list for a while now (I think there was an ad on Facebook and, unusually for me, I clicked on it) and it's all interesting stuff ... but I tend to trim the beard about once a week, including using the electric trimmer on "0" to clean out those areas (cheeks, under the jaw etc.) where I don't want the beard ... then use an electric razor to remove most of the stubble in those areas. If I'm going on a date or otherwise want to look my absolute sharpest, then (and only then) do I go to the bladed razor. This means a pack of five blades tends to last me a year (though I also have a couple of disposables in the travel wash bag for when I'm travelling, as it's easier/lighter than the electrical equipment, I usually want to look my sharpest, and I can throw them away rather than bring back those few extra grams)
