Well, that was a lot more fun than I thought it would be.
This morning, I got up with an inspiration - use my OpenOffice spreadsheet software to actually create, not exactly a character generator for the fantasy roleplaying game Legend, but more like a characteristic and attribute calculator, such that after rolling up one's characteristics one would simply feed them into the spreadsheet and let it compute not only the base attributes - such as the average of INT and DEX to determine strike rank and combat actions - but also the base percentages of opened skills before any previous experience, culture, profession and Improvement Roll modifiers are added to the various percentages.
That ought to cut down character generation of major NPCs, and even a few player characters, to a third of the time it has taken me to date. Chargen is such a tedious part of learning a roleplaying game until you learn the system. At least the Storytelling System did not rely extensively on tables of values for computed attributes such as Damage Modifier, Hit Locations and Combat Actions, as Legend seems to do.
