Robert Downey Jr As Sherlock Holmes?

What, in the name of bloody buggerated Hell, is this camp bastardised atrocity all about? It's Wild Wild West with less sense! FFS, Young Sherlock Holmes makes better watching!

...I've seen trailers, and Robert Downey, Jr. looks like he'll make a very good Sherlock Holmes. I've heard very good things about it and intend to see it as soon as it comes out.



And I not only loved Young Sherlock Holmes, but I own it on DVD.

I guess I've been spoiled by Jeremy Brett. He was just so brilliant, and he portrayed Holmes to perfection IMO. Seven percent cocaine solutions and all.

I can't imagine a Holmes running around shooting, looking by the trailer, at anything that moves. The advert makes him look more like Die Hard's John McClane in Victorian England, all "Yippie-ki-yay, motherfucker!" and a' that.

I don't think it's going to be as bad as Die Hard. I just think they're trying to give him a dark edge. I think it'll be interesting. I don't know that I'll get to see it at the theatre, but I'm going to try.

You couldn't get a much darker edge than a coke-addled Holmes under the needle.

Yes, but hopefully they're not going that route with RD since he's, you know, a recovering addict. Still, I think it's less about the character being dark edged (though he still is from what I've seen) and more about the setting having more of a dark edge to it, too.

It looks interesting enough that I'm going to go see it. RD Jr has become a better actor since cleaning up, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. :)

He said "I have an allergy to narcotics. I break out in handcuffs." Words to that effect. :)

Are you kidding? This is going to be hilarious. I'm trying to drag my Holmes-obsessed ex-girlfriend-type-person with me to see it before she leaves for California. It's 100% a popcorn movie and I AM SO EXCITED.
