What have I lost this year?

Old favourites which have been here for thirty, fifty, a hundred years. Woolworths and Kwik Save crashed. I remembered the old Kwik Save near where I live feeling so forlorn, a building wondering why the people had abandoned it. I felt so sad for it that I imprinted geomantic symbols into its walls. It is now a flourishing local store. Same crap, sifferent name.

In the wake of the 1996 planned demolition of the Corn Exchange built by Doctor John Dee during his stay in Manchester, my favourite occult bookshop moved around. It opened as the Kallisti Cafe in Tib Street in 2000, but moved not long afterwards to settle in Oldham Street where it remains to, hopefully, the time of this post.

Its heyday feels, sadly, long past. It no longer feels like the store where I picked up the Sacred Texts of Chaos Magic. Hell, Chaos Magic itself has gone away, and its practitioners would be regarded this day and age as outmoded, even archaic, like people going to nightclubs sressed in 1970s retro fashions and calling them "discos."

I have lost two girlfriends, a very good friend who departed for Usarian shores, and I lost a very dear friend to the Reaper back in 2002.

I almost lost my folks to the Reaper back in '08, it was that serious. Hell, in '03 it was touch and go for me.

I lost my job in '01, and again in '04. I haven't done office work or anything like that since. But one thing I did gain is probably the most important milestone in my life.

I finally became a published writer. Twice. Once for White Wolf, and later for Mongoose.
