Virtual Enterprise Conference

The first day of the Virtual Enterprise conference took place yesterday, in Glyndwr College. I missed the start - an unavoidable, niggling crisis delayed my arrival - but I was treated to a lecture by a Second Life entrepreneur. A very nice person she seemed, too.

Her name was Amy, and she runs a boutique selling poses, prims and other accessories. Fair enough. You've probably seen this all before.

I took a look at all the icons on display. They looked ... well, they kind of looked like Princess Leia from Return of The Jedi, when she was chained to Jabba the Hutt.

And then Amy said the golden word "Gorean."

And the poor, simple, naive folks around me wondered why I was laughing into my hand so hard.

My God, Wrexham has a lot of catching up to do ...

Just saying the word in the middle of Glyndwr's halls of academe was just hilarious enough.

However, right after it I found myself thinking "At least it wasn't Furry!" I went purple trying to imagine Amy having to explain what yiffing meant to the Glyndwr staff ...

The problem with people hearing about furries...

...is that everyone assumes "furry" means full fursuit. And it doesn't.

I'm a furry and I wouldn't put on a full fursuit if someone paid me. But the idea of wolf ears, a wolf tail, fangs and biting/growling/scratching and wolf-play turns me on something fierce.

Honestly, I hear Gorean and I want to react one of two ways: hiding from the man trying to force me into being his slave or punching the shit out of him until he's bleeding. I've met too many online who insist that because I'm female, I'm submissive.

Then again hot men in priest outfits really turn me on, too...but that wasn't brought up in this post. >_>

:D I actually quite like furries. Most of them. I mean, if you have kids getting into the furry scene, it's very hard for journalists to make up stories about yiffing and scritching when some eight year old's looking up at the camera like some adorable humanoid cottontail.

Not all furries get into furpiles. Literally or metaphorically. Some days, it really is about just being adorably cute. Even if the "furry kid" is 46. :)

Oh I've met some furries I don't care for or ones that are a bit too into the scene than I am. I've got a good friend who's up in Dallas now who's very much into the whole fursuit thing and sews them himself. They're cute and he's really good at it.

Hard to forget the Libra story which ended with him and Zeiss strolling up the streets of Liverpool dressed in fursuits. :)

I quite agree. Gor disturbs me somewhat.

Something else I'd like to mention here: Amy said later on that she has all of the Gor books, and she loves that world ...

Gor just creeps me the fuck out. I've tried to be more open minded about it, but the guys who are into BDSM (like from that old yahoo writing forum you and I were in?) who really pushed at me the most and pushed my buttons in very bad ways were more Gor-types.
