I enjoyed this Open Day. I'd attended the Graduate Support Day meeting earlier that day, in lecture theatre B - very educational and inspirational. I have more enquiries to make tomorrow, when I have more time to make my pitch to someone in Uni.

I bumped into a wonderful young lady from TechniQuest who showed me some delightful scientific tricks. One of them, a series of interlocking rings rotating about a plastic cord, looked like a mechanism for the formation of a magnetic field through the dynamic interactions of a rotating magnetic core. I mentioned the theory that Jupiter's massive magnetosphere is caused by the rotation of a core of metallic hydrogen, and also noted that the rotation of the actual rings was a fine example of the rifling effect, similar to the spin imparted by a bullet as it flies through a rifled gun barrel.

Hells, only a gamer geek or a CSI addict would think of that. :)

I would like to drop by TechniQuest some day soonish, and make a separate pitch to get involved - either on a voluntary basis or paid work - teaching the basics of maths to the kids who go there, kind of like these lessons here writ large.

Anyhow, a good day was had by me. I can't say what they would think of me. And at this point, I do not care. I have shown people enough that I am a man of my word. That should be enough. It has to be. My word is often all that I have to give.
