'Twilight' biting craze concerns health experts

Tue 28 Sep 11:44 AM
Teenagers embarking on a bizarre vampire biting trend sparked by the success of the 'Twilight' movies have received a warning from health officials.

Scores of US teens are reportedly biting their partners to draw blood, before sucking it. The rather gross act has worried medical experts, who claim there is a risk of contracting hepatitis and HIV - as well as other infections.

Dr Thomas Abshire, a paediatric blood and cancer specialist and spokesman for the American Academy of Paediatrics, said, "If you break the skin, your mouth is pretty dirty. The human mouth flora is dirtier than a dog or cat’s.”

Medical advisor to Consumer Reports magazine Dr Orley Avitzur added, "These are kids who think they are real vampires."

Avitzur spent long periods on vampire-related websites to explore the new teen phenomenon, and was stunned to see many posts of young teenagers confessing to biting their loved ones.

GothicGirl10 posted, "Having that thick, warm copper-tasting blood in my mouth is the best thing I can think of! Sometimes my boyfriend lets me feed off him. I let him feed off me as well.”

Avitzur is in no doubt that the craze is due to the huge success of the 'Twilight' movies.

He said, "If you think about it, there is such glamorisation in those teen vampire movies, they make it seem so sexy and appealing and intriguing. It’s all mixed up with passion.”

ROFLMAO and then some.

Wait, so they can get hepatitis and infections and die?

This problem sounds like the kind that will sort itself out.

I honestly thought this article had come from The Onion when I first read it, but then it turned out to be a serious piece ... so here it is.

Now to go and corner the market in glitter and antibiotic shots ...

If you could make an antibiotic shot with a side effect of "may cause skin to glitter" then you would be a millionaire.
