The general formula for weighting disasters' newsworthiness seems to be:-
10,000 foreign people dead in the Far East = 100 foreign people dead in the Middle East = 1 crashed coachload of foreign kids = 1 dead celeb.
Adding one dead Brit bumps up the news one category. Two or more, and it's headline news.
The general formula for weighting sporting events' newsworthiness seems to be:-
If the winner comes from Wales, Scotland or Ireland, it's a win for Britain.
If the winner comes from England, it's a win for England.
If the sportsperson is a loser and comes from Wales, Scotland or Ireland, it's a loss for Wales, Scotland or Ireland.
If the sportsperson is a loser and comes from England, it's a loss for Great Britain.
