Today, I minded two pretty American tourists in Chester.

It's a long story, but it boils down to this:- the two women were the high school friends of my old friend N.'s American wife (names initialised to preserve identities). H. and D. both like to travel. Both have wandered extensively before, and they'd never visited Chester before.

Among the highlights of this brief visit:-

• They met with Chester's historic Town Crier;

• They ate British pub grub in an establishment called The Victoria Arms, just on the High Cross in Chester;

• They had a good long walk along the city walls, taking in such sights as the Cathedral, the Amphitheatre, the Roman Gardens, the River Dee and the Minerva Shrine;

• There was a brief stopover for a spot of tiffin, some scones and toasted teacakes, washed down with a good British cuppa;

• And they got a bit of a taste of The Great British Summer, but they managed to dry it off before they got back to the railway station.

I thoroughly enjoyed these fine ladies' company. I hope to meet them both again, and I hope it won't be too long.

Will publish photographic evidence shortly.
