Okay, some news first, and then some excruciatingly sad news that is totally unrelated to the first item.

The news first. I had to make a phone call today, as a result of rapidly-changing circumstances beyond my control. As a consequence, I have an interview some time next week. More details as and when. No, sadly, not a job interview - and, thankfully, not a medical one.

And now the overwhelmingly sad news. My folks called me this morning, just now. Last night, one of their next door neighbours called round to let them know that our next door neighbour from opposite the road, Mrs Hurd, had passed during the night. She was, what, 80? I'm not sure. But we'll be checking the obits of the local newspaper today.

I've known Mrs Hurd since we moved to this town, more than 32 years ago. I will sorely, sorely miss her. She was one of the kindest women anyone could ever have had the privilege of knowing. She had, however, been suffering for some time, and it was really only a matter of time.

More news on both fronts later; quite possibly from the shed later tonight. That is all.

Your result for The '2001: A Space Odyssey' Test...

Star-Child

95 space-points!

You are the master of the Solar System and the next evolution of humanity. You know everything (or just about everything) about 2001. You must spend a lot of time hanging around in your glowing orb looking at Earth.

(P.S. For some reason it is putting everyone in the top category at 95 points even though there are only about 26 on the test. The categories from most points to least points are: Star-Child, Dr. Dave Bowman, HAL9000, Dr. Heywood Floyd, Dr. Frank Poole, Post-Monolith Apes, and Pre-Monolith Apes.)

Your result for Howard Gardner's Eight Types of Intelligence Test...

Linguistic

"Verbal-linguistic intelligence has to do with words, spoken or written. People with verbal-linguistic intelligence display a facility with words and languages. They are typically good at reading, writing, telling stories and memorizing words and dates. They tend to learn best by reading, taking notes, listening to lectures, and via discussion and debate. They are also frequently skilled at explaining, teaching and oration or persuasive speaking. Those with verbal-linguistic intelligence learn foreign languages very easily as they have high verbal memory and recall, and an ability to understand and manipulate syntax and structure.

Careers which suit those with this intelligence include writers, lawyers, philosophers, journalists, politicians and teachers." (Wikipedia)

I visited the folks. Normally, Mum sits in the main living room, looking out at the street and the houses across the way. Not today. Their house looks directly onto Mrs Hurd's place. Very sad.

And like I said earlier, I've got that interview arranged for Tuesday. Wish me luck with it. No, I won't say what it is yet - don't want to jinx it.

I can't think of anything else, so I'll just bid everybody here a good night.

Laters.
