A Good Day
Mar. 28th, 2010 12:22 amTechnically, it's already yesterday.
I bought myself a £15 weekly rover, which could get me bus journeys across North Wales and the North West. I needed to head up to Chester to join this Science Fiction reading club thing.
Sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances, I was somewhat late for it. Next time, though, I hope I won't be. I'm noting 24 April in my diary.
I entertained a friend of mine after the event in the West Cornwall Pasty Co., the cafe with the dummy pirate in the window. Over some really nice coffee and a pasty, we talked about a variety of topics. Languages were one topic. SF was another.
The theme for next month's book club will be William Gibson's works. I was thrilled to learn this - I have several of his books. It's a matter of choosing which one to read through.
Actually, by the next club I'll have read them all. Again.
The person behind the counter at the pasty cafe made my day. I mentioned that I would be blogging about this place - which I am doing right now. In gratitude for the act of social networking and free word of mouth advertising, she game me two bottles of some kind of smoothie, one of which I gave to my friend.
I'm going to try practicing the art of speed reading, and I showed him the book I had - Tony Buzan's Speed Reading book. I'd like to improve the speed of my book reading and memory retention. A lot.
We discussed science fiction books. Honestly, there are so many books that these people have never ever heard of. It's going to be such a challenge getting these books to the others to read. It really is. I'll have a word with the bloke who runs the bookstore on the wall about promoting his store, and perhaps passing by the library on 24 April to drop in on them some time, or maybe sending someone to speak about the book store for him.
Anyway, I had to come home. On arrival, I discovered that the next but was not due until 18:45 hours, ages away. I found myself opening a conversation with a nice young lady next to me. I discussed philosophy. It might have seemed a bit heavy, but we both enjoyed the chat.
And the conversation had one intended effect. It reduced a wait of some forty minutes to what felt like five. Proving that time really does fly by when you are having fun.
To close, I have a new document, one which I had intended to send off to RPG Review last week, had not more of these unfortunate circumstances prevented me from doing so. I'll wait and see what the RPG Review site has to say about it. I am likely to miss the March edition. I won't miss the June edition.
And I have an idea in the works, following on from this submission. I will need to see how I can develop it.
That's it. I am wrapping this thing up and heading for bed. Night night.
