Step One

Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals, or holiday_wishes) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holi ---

Sorry about the interruption - I'll just get onto the wishlist in a mo.

I'm in the library right now, and there's a couple of pigeons outside. The computer annexe's got these huge floor to ceiling windows - it's all just big glass walls, so there's an uninterrupted view of the world outside. So I can see these pigeons, and now one of the squirrels, handily.

Man, those are two fat fucking pigeons, and that squirrel's packing a lot of meat under his fur, as well. But by God, can it move. :)

Anyway, back you go ...

--- day special.

1. A publishing contract for my books. Just having some publishing house send me a request for the first three chapters of Book One of The Fourth Rewrite, and a contract for the rest of the book, delivery by June next year.

2. Peace and quiet, to get The Fourth Rewrite finished now, by the end of this year, as I promised myself. (At least I have an excuse - I hadn't anticipated I'd lose my camera, or be swamped by other stuff in the meantime.)

3. I've got two major projects, other than The Fourth Rewrite, that I'd like to start on. So uninterrupted time for that would be sovereign.

4. I could ask for my old Kodak Z710 camera back, but I've worked out that if I save up loose change for a month, I can save up enough to buy an even better one. Indeed, I already have, so I really only have to ask for justice for me, and the apprehension and conviction of the petty thief who stole it.

5. Speaking of cameras, it turns out that Wrexham Cameras have been dropping the prices of the old camera models - they're coming down like a stone. The old Z710 camera I bought for £129.99 in August? Now worth £90. The Kodak Z812is that surpasses it with 8Mp resolution and a 12x optical lens, worth £229.99 in September? Now worth £169.99. I'd love to try out the Z812is. Give me a financial quarter of saving, and I might just do that. Who knows? The damn thing might be £120 by that time.

6. I wish for the rest of my f'list and their f'lists to get their wishlists. For [livejournal.com profile] catdancer and [livejournal.com profile] nematoddity to have their situations sorted out and [livejournal.com profile] nematoddity to give us even more hilarious Fugly posts next year, [livejournal.com profile] mayphoenix and her partner to find even more to smile about, [livejournal.com profile] nyghtshayde to land a chance to get her glorious poetry published in an anthology, [livejournal.com profile] lemuria to find someone who will restore her faith in men again, [livejournal.com profile] rhionnach to feel the wound in her heart begin to heal and everyone else, from [livejournal.com profile] lady_gaslight and [livejournal.com profile] thewingsofisis and [livejournal.com profile] jesshartley to [livejournal.com profile] lucien_soulban and [livejournal.com profile] martinhazel to find peace inside them, and a moment without anger, fear or grief.

7. And this is the most important thing by far, I wish for a week with just me and [livejournal.com profile] naaila together somewhere. Not at her folks' place; not even at mine. Somewhere in the UK we both have to travel to, where we could spend a week just enjoying one another's company, and it wouldn't cost the earth for either of us. I have chosen Nai, as she has chosen me. I love her and miss her so so much. I want us to be together as partners, not just as occasional lovers. But failing that, a week together, no worries, would do for us.

That's really it. If there's anything else, I will post it later.
