So Why ARE People So Bloody Miserable?

fiat_knoxThat was the question asked by a Labour politician this morning on his blog, sparking one hell of a row in the media.
The answer to why we Brits are so miserable is this.
We elected these politicians to look after us.
Instead, they have been busy now Tippexing out all of the basic laws and rights in the legal statute books - rights whose installation in those statute books were the foundation of the modern, democratic society in which we live.
And not only that - we're only just starting to suspect that this has been in the offing for a very, very long time. I mean decades.
The whole Patriot Act shite, all that stuff about Gitmo, rendition flights, our own 42 day detention without charge clause that allows the Government to pick up anyone and detain them for A MONTH AND A HALF WITHOUT CHARGE OR ACCESS TO LEGAL REPRESENTATION OR LOVED ONES ... all of this, like warrantless wiretapping of innocent citizens' phone conversations and emails, monitoring library books and book purchases, our own RIPA act that gives councils carte blanche to monitor everybody's daily lives ... the installation of an ID culture with CCTVs monitoring every street, compulsory biometric ID cards and a national DNA database ...
... they've been planning this for a very long time.
This scam has seen successive governments come and go, and stayed in place independently of whoever was in charge at the time. Thatcher set the ball in motion in earnest in the Eighties, but it hasn't really caught on until these past few years, when 9/11 gave the most venal and slimy politicians the world has ever seen all the flimsy excuse they needed to make it a reality for everyone.
Do you think, for one minute, that when they do set up the Database State that they're ever going to let it go? Do you think, for one moment, that this is "for the current emergency only" and that as soon as they've waved goodbye to terrorism and global warming that everything will go back to the way it was before 9/11?
No. Wake up, people - this is for keeps.
You keep on doing what they want you all to do, stay silent, do nothing, don't rock the boat, and you'll wake up tomorrow morning and the jackboots will be at your fucking door.
And that's why people are so miserable. Because the meatheads we voted for, and sometimes did not vote for, are gleefully smiling and even laughing as they turn our beloved Free West into a Fascist state.
