Each year, the Beeb run this charity telethon thing called "Children In Need." Basically, pledges of cash donations are used to help the disadvantaged kids at home and abroad. All big stuff, and the closest thing to a bank holiday we have between Halloween / Bonfire Night and Christmas.
Generally, the runup to Christmas in the UK is a bleak occasion, enlivened only slightly by this event. And only then, because of the occasional treat they put up for fans of SF.
Specifically, Doctor Who.
This year, the Beeb had a treat: the teaser for the 2008 Doctor Who Christmas Special, "The Next Doctor." I missed it on the TV ... but not online.
The preview can, for the moment, be found on the Children in Need page on the BBC's website: Allons - Y!
It certainly looks good.
And now I'm looking forward to this year's Christmas Special, made all the more poignant by the knowledge that there won't be all that many more performances to come of David Tennant, this wonderful actor, as The Doctor.
Enjoy.
