Each year, the Beeb run this charity telethon thing called "Children In Need." Basically, pledges of cash donations are used to help the disadvantaged kids at home and abroad. All big stuff, and the closest thing to a bank holiday we have between Halloween / Bonfire Night and Christmas.
Generally, the runup to Christmas in the UK is a bleak occasion, enlivened only slightly by this event. And only then, because of the occasional treat they put up for fans of SF.
Specifically, Doctor Who.
This year, the Beeb had a treat: the teaser for the 2008 Doctor Who Christmas Special, "The Next Doctor." I missed it on the TV ... but not online.
The preview can, for the moment, be found on the Children in Need page on the BBC's website: Allons - Y!
It certainly looks good.
And now I'm looking forward to this year's Christmas Special, made all the more poignant by the knowledge that there won't be all that many more performances to come of David Tennant, this wonderful actor, as The Doctor.
Enjoy.

Date: 2008-11-14 10:12 pm (UTC)This makes me a little sad -- I love David Tennant. The first ep I ever saw was "The Girl in the Fireplace" so he was my "first doctor." At the same time, as I've watched past eps and exposed myself a broad range of doctors (*ooer, sounds a bit rude there), his hyperactivity has started to get to me a bit and I don't want to see him burn himself out. Better to go out when you still have a good thing going.
What I will miss: the chance to see him and Elisabeth Sladen interact. That last episode, his incredulous "you have a *son*?!?" alone was worth the price of admission. He's had other companions, other adventures, yet he still can't quite believe his favourite has a life without him. And Tennant made that bond seem believable, as though he were the one who'd acted with her for three years.
