All this bleating from the well-off, complaining that now the Chancellor's decided to punish them with big tax rises, they're going to be poor.

Fucking hell. Them? Poor? Come again?

I always thought that the upper class were supposed to be that way because of breeding, which should get them through times of no money better than moneycan get them through times of no breeding. Or is that dope?

Anyway, they're squealing that somebody's taking away their money ... and that this will leave them on an "equal footing" with the likes of me.

I sneer at that. They always have been. The only difference between me and the toffs is where we live, the cash in our accounts, and our parents. No matter how much cash is in your wallet, or whether or not you can speak fluent Latin or HTML or just gutterspeak, you can only eat food through one mouth, wear one pair of shoes, one pair of trousers, drive one car to work, breathe one mouthful of oxygen at a time.

Oh, and you only live one life. The toffs have a far better chance of making that life a better one than I, simply because they have greater resources - money, contacts, invitations to fancier shindigs.

So why haven't they been taking advantage of this? Because deep down, they are just as small, just as petty and arrogant and violent and brutish and selfish and common as muck as all the minnows at the bottom of the food chain.

Churlish, in point of fact.

Like the sighted man locked in a darkened room with a blind guy, the rich man deprived of his money finds himself a liability to everyone, panicking, flailing about, making himself a bloody nuisance. Whereas the poor man, like the blind guy in the pitch dark room, is already in his home element. Nothing will change, apart from the fact that he's now locked in a room with a flailing, panicky blithering idiot. (Though do the rich guy justice: chances are, he'd have been a panicky, blithering, flailing idiot long before be ever came to the dark room).
