Well, I pitched the idea to the publisher, and the editor responded that my idea was not something the company would be interested in marketing.

So I find myself wondering: What if I wrote the thing up myself?

The project would give me something to do, a challenge to my creative talents and a goal to set myself.

So I'm going to set a limit of one hundred thousand words, and give myself a period of time to do it.

Bear in mind that NaNoWriMo is a challenge to come up with a fifty thousand word novel in thirty days, and that barring personal triumphs and/or disasters, a lot of people manage that, working flat out it could be possible to come up with something of this size if one wrote 50k over two months ...

... or something slower, say 20k over five months. Possibly a bit longer, to allow for slack months where one might only be able to do 15k or so.

I've got the bug. I don't want to do little 5k and 10k pieces. I want to do something larger, something that is my own creation.

And tough as the prospect sounds, it's not nearly as tough writing a RPG product as it is to come up with a full scale novel, where you have to work on everything: plot, character depth, dialogue, motivations and what I call "grab" - the hook that reaches out of the pages and yanks the reader's head straight into the setting.

Barring my own personal situational changes, my little triumphs and disasters, I guess I might as well go for it, and see what happens.
