Jean Michel Jarre
Mar. 7th, 2011 01:11 pmJust listened to Jean Michel Jarre's Rendezvous IV, from the "JMJ in Houston and Lyon" album. This track was first played at the Rendez-vous Concert in Houston back in 1986, and it closes the album. The sax accompaniment was by Kurt Whalen, standing in for the late Ron MacNair, who'd died in the shuttle and who'd been set to be the first musician to play live in space, if he'd lived.
When Kurt breaks in with the triumphant sax towards the end of this track, I am reminded of everything good and optimistic and golden in America at that time. And I think of what they are doing over there today.
This track causes me to tear up every time. Only nowadays, for a different reason.
