Dating Sites Question
Aug. 13th, 2008 11:59 pmAm I doing this dating site thing wrong? I'm on a dating site. The site emails me a lot of interesting profiles, and once in a while I click on one or two.
Am I being forward when I message them? I disregard when people see a man making the first move as "creepy." That's just the ones living in a fucking tabloid world, with their petty tabloid bigotry showing. They can't help being stupid. I only take their responses as being a sign to break off further contact. I'd rather them be smart but crazy than dumb and loud.
Six billion people plus, and nobody actually wants to sit down and talk to people unless it's to try and kill them or steal their money.
So I reckon I can afford to be just a little choosy. Also, the books I'm reading are opening my eyes. I've no guarantees they'll make me a better lover - but at least they'll make my life more interesting. And that, in the end, is all that matters to me. Not who I'm with, but what sort of a life I'm leading.
They can join me, and share that life if they wish. I'm not going to wait around for them to decide whether to catch up or not, is all.
And if that makes me a rubbish lover, and hopeless on dating sites and at dating overall, so be it.

Date: 2008-08-14 05:41 pm (UTC)I've met all sorts on dating sites - fakes, scammers, con artists - but also had some of the most positive experiences of sex, relationships and friendship through those sites, and met people I would never otherwise have met. You just have to be persistent and not take the trolls' and idiots' responses personally.
